Don Hopey


Don Hopey has covered the environment for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette since 1993.  He’s written about hiking the Appalachian Trail, an 80-mile canoe trip on the federal Wild and Scenic section of the Allegheny River, pollution in Eastern Europe, the undermining and destruction of historic homes in southwestern Pennsylvania, the increased mortality caused by coal-burning power plants and other industrial facilities in southwestern Pennsylvania, and water an air problems caused by Marcellus Shale drilling operations. Don is currently the president of the Society of Environmental Journalists.
