Book Examines Myth, Legend, Reality, of PA Oilman

This year marks the 150th anniversary of the building of the world's first commercially successful oil well. It all began south of Erie, in Titusville, in 1859. Historian William Brice, an emeritus professor at the University of Pittsburgh, has written a book on the man at the center of this event. Brice's work, Myth, Legend, and Reality: Edwin L. Drake and the Early Oil Industry is out this week. Brice spoke with The Allegheny Front's Katelyn Malongowski. The author will be signing copies of his book Dec. 18 at Farmers National Bank in Titusville from 4pm until the bank closes, and Dec. 19 at a reception at the Venango Museum of Art, Science, and Industry in Oil City from 1-3pm.
